A chip is and "integrated circuit" made of silicium which measures only few millimeters but contains billions of transistors. Various types of chip are used in to carry out a wide range of tasks. They are necessary in consumer goods such as cellphones, washing machines and digital camera. They also play an important role in industrial processes.
